POEM BY TED HUGHES - ROE-DEER

Posted on Aug 1st, 2009 by Taikunping : heaven meets earth Taikunping
Dscf0167_edited

In the dawn-dirty light, in the biggest snow of the year
Two blue-dark deer stood in the road, alerted

They had happened into my dimension
The moment I was arriving just there

They planted their two or three years of secret deerhood
Clear on my snow-screen vision of the abnormal

And hesitated in the all-way disintegration
And stared at me.  And so for some lasting seconds

I could think the deer were waiting for me
To remember the password and sign

That the curtain had blown aside for a moment
And there where the trees were no longer trees, nor the road a road

The deer had come for me...

Then they ducked through the hedge, and upright they rode their legs
Away downhill over a snow-lonely field

Towards tree dark - finally
Seeming to eddy and glide and fly away up

Into the boil of big flakes
The snow took them and soon their nearby hoofprints as well

Revising its dawn inspiration
Back to the ordinary

POEM BY AMY LOWELL - A JAPANESE WOOD-CARVING

Posted on Aug 5th, 2009 by Taikunping : heaven meets earth Taikunping
Dscf8717_edited
A Japanese Wood-Carving

High up above the open, welcoming door
It hangs, a piece of wood with colours dim.
Once, long ago, it was a waving tree
And knew the sun and shadow through the leaves
Of forest trees, in a thick eastern wood.
The winter snows had bent its branches down,
The spring had swelled its buds with coming flowers,
Summer had run like fire through its veins,
While autumn pelted it with chestnut burrs,
And strewed the leafy ground with acorn cups.
Dark midnight storms had roared and crashed among
Its branches, breaking here and there a limb;
But every now and then broad sunlit days
Lovingly lingered, caught among the leaves.
Yes, it had known all this, and yet to us
It does not speak of mossy forest ways,
Of whispering pine trees or the shimmering birch;
But of quick winds, and the salt, stinging sea!
An artist once, with patient, careful knife,
Had fashioned it like to the untamed sea.
Here waves uprear themselves, their tops blown back
By the gay, sunny wind, which whips the blue
And breaks it into gleams and sparks of light.
Among the flashing waves are two white birds
Which swoop, and soar, and scream for very joy
At the wild sport. Now diving quickly in,
Questing some glistening fish. Now flying up,
Their dripping feathers shining in the sun,
While the wet drops like little glints of light,
Fall pattering backward to the parent sea.
Gliding along the green and foam-flecked hollows,
Or skimming some white crest about to break,
The spirits of the sky deigning to stoop
And play with ocean in a summer mood.
Hanging above the high, wide open door,
It brings to us in quiet, firelit room,
The freedom of the earth's vast solitudes,
Where heaping, sunny waves tumble and roll,
And seabirds scream in wanton happiness.

Queen and Huntress, chaste and fair
Now the sun is laid to sleep
Seated in thy silver chair
State in wonted manner keep
Hesperus entreats thy light
Goddess excellently bright

Earth, let not thy envious shade
Dare itself to interpose
Cynthia's shining orb was made
Heaven to clear when day did close
Bless us then with wished sight
Goddess excellently bright

Lay thy bow of pearl apart
And thy crystal-shining quiver
Give unto the flying hart
Space to breathe, how short soever
Thou that mak'st a day of night
Goddess excellently bright !

RUDYARD KIPLING - VALEDICTORY POEMS, CHARTRES WINDOWS 1925

Posted on Aug 10th, 2009 by Taikunping : heaven meets earth Taikunping
Dscf1271_edited

Colour fulfils where Music has no power:
By each man's light the unjudging glass betrays
All men's surrender, each man's holiest hour
And lit confusion of our days-
Purfled with iron, traced in dusk and fire,
Challenging ordered Time who, at the last,
Shall bring it, grozed and leaded and wedged fast,
To the cold stone that curbs or crowns desire.
Yet on the pavement that all feet have trod-
Even as the Spirit, in her deeps and heights,
Turns only, and that voiceless, to her God-
There falls no tincture from those anguished lights.
And Heaven's one light, behind them, striking through
Blazons what each man dreamed no other knew.

The glory of friendship is not the outstretched hand nor the kindly smile, nor the joy of companionship:  it is the spiritual inspiration that comes to one when he discovers that someone else believes in him and is willing to trust him with his friendship...

POEM - DISTANT BEACHES

Posted on Aug 12th, 2009 by Taikunping : heaven meets earth Taikunping

distant beaches together
gazing at dawn breaking
cool sky shuddering open
light so soft and apricot grey
walking at the edge of water
waves move sand
shell breaks with each footstep
salty air on lips
hair lifted by gentle sea breeze
time, time, time
no time, no time, no time
just now....

"As you surrender your will to God, and have faith and confidence in the love of God, so will that love be continually demonstrated to you and will work out in your lives.  If you live in accordance with spiritual law you will harm no man and no man can harm you".

"Love is the great solvent of all difficulties, all problems, all misunderstandings.  Apply love, by your inner attitude towards any human problem.  Put aside the reasoning mind.  Let divine love operate in you.  Give from your inner self God's love, and you will be surprised to find that every problem will be solved; every knot loosened"

cat hellbent
cat serene

cat's breath soft
cat snores aloft
cat on shelf
cat by itself

cat's tongue pink

POEM - LIFE IS A DANCE

Posted on Aug 17th, 2009 by Taikunping : heaven meets earth Taikunping
Dscf1577

Life is a dance - let us dance!
Life is a game - let us play!
We are alive together
Helping each other
Communication is the key

Expressing the unexpressable
by words and feelings
We live more of life
We dance together
Hand in hand
Life is our bond
Our lives are softly woven
Together we play on...

POEM - ROBERT FROST - STOPPING BY WOODS ON A SNOWY EVENING

Posted on Aug 18th, 2009 by Taikunping : heaven meets earth Taikunping

Whose woods these are I think I know
His house is in the village though
He will not see me stopping here
To watch his woods fill up with snow

My little horse must think it queer
To stop without a farmhouse near
Between the woods and frozen lake
The darkest evening of the year

He gives his harness bells a shake
To ask if there is some mistake
The only other sound's the sweep
Of easy wind and downy flake

The woods are lovely, dark and deep
But I have promises to keep
And miles to go before I sleep
And miles to go before I sleep

A BLESSING FOR OLD AGE - JOHN O'DONOHUE

Dscf9649_edited
May the light of your soul mind you
May all of your worry and anxiousness
about becoming old be transfigured
May you be given wisdom for the
eye of your soul, to see this
beautiful time of harvesting
May you have the commitnment to
harvest your life, to heal what
has hurt you, to allow it to come
closer to you and become one with you
May you have great dignity, may you
have a sense of how free you are,
and above all may you be given the
wonderful gift of meeting the eternal
light and beauty that is within you
May you be blessed, and may you
find a wonderful love in your self
for yourself.....

OGHAM SCRIPT

Posted on Aug 20th, 2009 by Taikunping : heaven meets earth Taikunping
Dscf1599

The Ogham script recorded the earliest Old Irish texts dating between the 3rd and the 6th century CE. Ogham inscriptions are found exclusively in Ireland, Scotland, and Wales. Mostly they are genealogical inscriptions in the form of "X son of Y" on corners of large stone slabs. After the 6th century CE, Old Irish was written with the Roman alphabet, and Ogham disappeared from general but the knowledge must have been preserved in some form because our knowledge of Ogham comes from the chapter Auraicept na n-Éces in the 15th-century work The Book of Ballymote (Leabhar Bhaile an Mhóta), which also contains geneologies, mythologies, and histories of Ireland.

Various opinions exist on the exact origin of ogham. Some claim that it stemmed from a cryptic way of writing runes, some say that it was inspired from the Roman alphabet, and yet others hold that it was independently invented.

The Ogham letters are divided into four groups, each containing five letters. This yields a total of 20 Ogham letters.

When inscribed on stones, Ogham is written vertically from bottom to top. The following chart lists all Ogham letters in their vertical forms, along with their Old Irish names and meanings.

APPLE SYMBOLISM - "JOHNNY APPLESEED"

Posted on Aug 22nd, 2009 by Taikunping : heaven meets earth Taikunping
Dscf1199_edited
Apple Symbolism and Johnny Appleseed

As far as modern myths go, Johnny Appleseed is the most prominent American legend associated with apples. Born John Chapman in 1774, he lived for about 12 years near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. In his mid-twenties, Johnny began his journey westward with an eye for providing settlers with apple trees and saplings.

There was a law at the time that required settlers to plant 50 apple trees in their first year on newly acquired land. This law was aimed at preventing starvation among the settlers. Although Johnny wandered far and wide planting trees, he also owned and leased considerable areas of land for his apple orchards.

Johnny was a devout Christian who was influenced by the ideas of Emmanuel Swedenborg. Swedenborg valued love and joy above all other virtues. Compared to many of the repressive philosophies then in vogue, his approach to the spiritual life was a breath of fresh air for the settlers with whom Johnny shared his religious tracts and Biblical interpretations.

Johnny Appleseed spent nearly 50 years traversing the wilderness planting apple trees and tending to his own orchards. Johnny dreamed of a landscape beautified by apple blossoms and a country where no one would go hungry. Johnny believed that apples are among "the finest things on earth."

LIVING IN THE PRESENT - DR EDWARD TAUB - LETTING GO OF FEAR

Posted on Aug 23rd, 2009 by Taikunping : heaven meets earth Taikunping
Dscf9540_edited
Fear is born in the mind, as are all other emotions.  Freedom from fear requires the lifting of a veil from infront of your mind to perceive the truth that the only thing you have to fear is fear itself.

Fear and freedom can co-exist.  It is when your ego becomes terrified of fear and tells you that there must be no fear that anxiety begins.  The voice of your ego shouts:
Don't feel fear....don't show fear, don't admit to fear.  Thus, the greater your fear, the greater the mental turmoil you feel.

The wonderful recognition that you can have emotions such as fear and still control your response releases you from your ego's grip.  Then the experience of fear need never be so devastating or even uncomfortable.

You can begin, calmly, to observe your fear - admit it, accept it and let it go without suffering its effect.

As you ascend the "healing pyramid", you are learning to live more and more in the here and now.  In the present moment, there is no fear - because fear is merely the ties of the past or the pull of the future.

Living in the present is living in balance and true harmony of body, mind and spirit...

"The wise man in the storm prays to God, not for safety from danger, but for deliverance from fear.  It is the storm within that endangers him, not the storm without"

Ralph Waldo Emerson

STRIVING FOR THE GOOD - DR E. TAUB - 7 STEPS TO SELF HEALING

Posted on Aug 24th, 2009 by Taikunping : heaven meets earth Taikunping
Dscf0827
Ascending this step of the Pyramid of Human Aspiration needs effort to overcome any feelings of futility that may obstruct your path.
Work is required in order to break out of indecision and fear of hurt, failure and the unknown.  You are striving now for the Ideal of the Good.  You can begin by offering your kindness or service to others each day.
Soon you will find that your potential for goodness has no end and with this is given the potential for boundless health, because the energy of your whole self responds to goodness in healing ways.  There is no source of self-esteem greater than the Good.

Parting the Veils

Since the age of Plato in the fourth century BC, almost all commentary about virtue and love has been drawn from his revelations that goodness, beauty and love are the best work of the soul.  Human glory fades with time, yet the Ideal of Good shines undimmed behind the veils of the physical world, forever able to be rekindled as the moral basis of our being...
