STREAM OF LIFE - TAGORE

Stream of Life

The same stream of life that runs through my veins night and day

runs through the world and dances in rhythmic measures.

It is the same life that shoots in joy through the dust of the earth

in numberless blades of grass

and breaks into tumultuous waves of leaves and flowers.

It is the same life that is rocked in the ocean-cradle of birth

and of death, in ebb and in flow.

I feel my limbs are made glorious by the touch of this world of life.

And my pride is from the life-throb of ages dancing in my blood this moment.

a very small part of 'Gitanjali' by Tagore

PART OF GITANJALI - RABINDRANATH TAGORE - "SONG OFFERINGS"

Little of Me

Let only that little be left of me

whereby I may name thee my all.

Let only that little be left of my will

whereby I may feel thee on every side,

and come to thee in everything,

and offer to thee my love every moment.

Let only that little be left of me

whereby I may never hide thee.

Let only that little of my fetters be left

whereby I am bound with thy will,

and thy purpose is carried out in my life---and that is the fetter of thy love

GITANJALI - RABINDRANATH TAGORE - SALUTATION - SONG OFFERINGS

Salutation

In one salutation to thee, my God,

let all my senses spread out and touch this world at thy feet.

Like a rain-cloud of July

hung low with its burden of unshed showers

let all my mind bend down at thy door in one salutation to thee.

Let all my songs gather together their diverse strains into a single current

and flow to a sea of silence in one salutation to thee.

Like a flock of homesick cranes flying night and day

back to their mountain nests

let all my life take its voyage to its eternal home

in one salutation to thee.

POEM - EARTH OPENS HEAVEN'S DOOR

Posted on Jul 4th, 2009 by Taikunping : inner fire Taikunping
Dscf9886_edited

earth opens heaven's door
multiple patterns of checkered light
appearing as if smudged by softened rain
merging now into one water-washed world of love

love spread like oil on water
glazing the top then sinking deep, deeper
slowly melting through skin's soft elastic barrier
dripping majestically, forming pools of spectacular colours

ocean floor covered in spots of mixing opalescent rainbow tones
surface top, deepest forever base, rich in life giving nutrient
softly layered in colour
will the colours merge
into the space inbetween?

releasing and falling
rising and merging
heaven and earth join
into oneness and truth

KUM NYE - MEDITATION AND PHYSICAL MOVEMENT

Posted on Jul 11th, 2009 by Taikunping : inner fire Taikunping
Dscf9775
Kum Nye Relaxation

Kum Nye is a little known means of promoting confidence, power, and endurance through the stimulation and transformation of the body and our mental energy.

To many Kum Nye is like a form of meditation, yet it is a physical form of movement which includes subtle yet powerful exercise. It is a useful form of movement which helps to release emotional and physical tensions that are held within the body. Many exercises can help to produce and release physical tensions held deeply within the body. Each exercise can  lead to a sense of release and deep relaxation.

Kum Nye is based on  ancient Tibetan spiritual knowledge developed over 1,500 years ago. Kum Nye Relaxation offers a very effective way for refreshing and revitalising the whole body and mind. It is beneficial for young and old alike with gentle easy-to-follow movement exercises which can relieve tension, heighten energy levels, improve concentration, and help to bring clarity to all of the senses.

Kum Nye introduces the view of body and mind as a naturally integrated whole, offering a more balanced and satisfying approach to experiences based on self appreciation and self-understanding. Basic breathing, massage, and movement exercises can lead to the more advanced exercises which have been translated by Tulku Tarthang (Rinpoche).

Applying the techniques which have been published by Tulku Tarthang in two volumes can, in daily exercise promote a lighter, more cheerful approach to living and working in the modern world.

Movements are generally very slow and gentle, they are suited to all ages and physical abilities.

POEM - HIAWATHA'S CHILDHOOD - HENRY WADSWORTH LONGFELLOW

Posted on Jul 13th, 2009 by Taikunping : inner fire Taikunping
Dscf0502
By the shores of Gitche Gumee,
By the shining Big-Sea-Water,
Stood the wigwam of Nokomis,
Daughter of the Moon, Nokomis.
Dark behind it rose the forest,
Rose the black and gloomy pine-trees,
Rose the firs with cones upon them;
Bright before it beat the water.
Beat the clear and sunny water,
Beat the shining Big-Sea-Water.
There the wrinkled old Nokomis
Nursed the little Hiawatha.
Rocked him in his linden cradle,
Bedded soft in moss and rushes,
Safely bound with reindeer sinews;
Stilled his fretful wail by saying,
"Hush, the Naked Bear will hear thee!"
Lulled him into slumber, singing,
"Ewa-yea! my little owlet!
Who is this, that lights the wigwam?
With his great eyes lights the wigwam?
Ewa-yea! my little owlet!"
Many things Nokomis taught him
Of the stars that shine in heaven;
Showed him lshkoodah, the comet,
lshkoodah, with fiery tresses,
Showed the Death-Dance of the spirits,
Warriors with their plumes and war-clubs
Flaring far away to northward
In the frosty nights of winter;
Showed the broad white road in heaven,
Pathway of the ghosts, the shadows,
Running straight across the heavens,
Crowded with the ghosts, the shadows.
At the door on summer evenings,
Sat the little Hiawatha,
Heard the whispering of the pine-trees,
Heard the lapping of the waters,
Sounds of music, words of wonder;
"Minne-wawa!" said the pine-trees,
"Mudway-aushka!" said the water.
Saw the fire-fly Wah-wah-taysee,
Flitting through the dusk of evening,
With the twinkle of its candle
Lighting up the brakes and bushes,
And he sang the song of children,
Sang the song Nokomis taught him;
"Wah-wah-taysee, little fire-fly,
Little flitting, white-fire insect,
Little, dancing, white-fire creature,
Light me with your little candle,
Ere upon my bed I lay me,
Ere in sleep I close my eyelids!"
Saw the moon rise from the water,
Rippling, rounding from the water,
Saw the flecks and shadows on it,
Whispered, "What is that, Nokomis?"
And good Nokomis answered:
"Once a warrior, very angry,
Seized his grandmother, and threw her
Up into the sky at midnight;
Right against the moon he threw her;
'Tis her body that you see there."
Saw the rainbow in the heaven,
In the eastern sky the rainbow,
Whispered, "What is that, Nokomis?"
And the good Nokomis answered:
"'Tis the heaven of flowers you see there;
All the wild-flowers of the forest,
All the lilies of the prairie,
When on earth they fade and perish,
Blossom in that heaven above us."
When he heard the owls at midnight,
Hooting, laughing in the forest,
"What is that?' he cried in terror;
"What is that," he said, "Nokomis?"
And the good Nokomis answered;
"That is but the owl and owlet,
Talking in their native language,
Talking, scolding at each other."
Then the little Hiawatha
Learned their names and all their secrets,
How they built their nests in summer,
Where they hid themselves in winter,
Talked with them whene'er he met them,
Called them "Hiawatha's Chickens."
Of all beasts he learned the language,
Learned their names and all their secrets,
How the beavers built their lodges,
Where the squirrels hid their acorns,
How the reindeer ran so swiftly,
Why the rabbit was so timid,
Talked with them whene'er he met them,
Called them "Hiawatha's Brothers."

NB - this poem was probably my first introduction to poetry in primary school - I remember loving it so much and reading it out loud - I remembered about it last night for some reason...

Blessings to all

ISIS - EGYPTIAN GODDESS - OF MAGIC AND THE GIVER OF LIFE

Posted on Jul 17th, 2009 by Taikunping : inner fire Taikunping
Dscf0368_edited

Isis, Egyptian Goddess

of  Magic and Giver of Life

Isis, the Egyptian goddess of rebirth remains one of the most familiar images of empowered and utter femininity. The goddess Isis was the first daughter of Geb, god of the Earth, and Nut, the goddess of the Overarching Sky. Isis was born on the first day between the first years of creation, and was adored by her human followers.

Unlike the other Egyptian goddesses, the goddess Isis spent time among her people, teaching women how to grind corn and make bread, spin flax and weave cloth, and how to tame men enough to live with them....
Isis taught her people the skills of reading and agriculture and was worshipped as the goddess of medicine and wisdom.

Isis

More than any other of the ancient Egyptian goddesses, Isis embodied the characteristics of all the lesser goddesses that preceded her. Isis became the model on which future generations of female deities in other cultures were to be based.

As the personification of the "complete female", Isis was called "The One Who Is All", Isis Panthea ("Isis the All Goddess"), and the "Lady of Ten Thousand Names".

The goddess Isis, a moon goddess, gave birth to Horus, the god of the sun. Together, Isis and Horus created and sustained all life and were the saviors of their people.

secluded woods beckon to thee
oak tree, jay, ivy in May
sappling leaning at an angle
forming into secluded copse

wakening from slumber
the maiden lay
apple red cheeks
hair red and tendril twists

morning light beckons
soft, sweet noises rise to greet
goddess dreaming into day
leaf light shimmers, branches sway

gazing, hazy earth scent awakens
feeling heartbeats steady rhythm
glimpse arousing summer days
wild rose and jasmine nights

PROFOUND QUOTES - PLUS PART OF THE BROOK BY TENNYSON

Posted on Jul 24th, 2009 by Taikunping : inner fire Taikunping
Dscf8379
"Only that in you which is me can hear what I'm saying.."

by Baba Ram Dass

"I am part of all that I have met.."

Alfred Lord Tennyson

part of "The Brook" - An Idyl by Alfred Lord Tennyson

I chatter over stony ways
In little sharps and trebles
I bubble into eddying bays
I babble on the pebbles

With many a curve my banks I fret
By many a field and fallow
And many a fairy foreland set
With willow-weed and mallow

I chatter, chatter, as I flow
To join the brimming river
For men may come and men may go
But I go on for ever...

MASS AT DAWN - ROY CAMBELL

Posted on Jul 24th, 2009 by Taikunping : inner fire Taikunping
Dscf8718_edited
I dropped my sail and dried my dripping seines
Where the white quay is chequered by cool planes
In whose great branches, always out of sight
The nightingales are singing day and night
Though all was grey beneath the moon's grey beam
My boat in her new paint shone like a bride
And silver in my baskets shone the bream:
My arms were tired and I was heavy-eyed
But when with food and drink, at morning-light
The children met me at the water-side
Never was wine so red or bread so white
